WITNESSED   ( Seen and Heard )

Elizabethtown Area High School’s much acclaimed production of the musical “Cats” had other Donegal Church participants in addition to Corey Landis as Skimbleshanks.  Kyle Cleis was Plato and Kari Labagh played Cassandra and was a dance assistant.  The technical crew included Theta Cleis, makeup, and parent volunteers, Ginny Labagh and Steve & Nancy Landis.  Congratulations to all who were involved.

Kira Labagh, a senior at West Chester University, has been named to the 2007 dean’s list.  She is majoring in kinesiology and minoring in health science and adapted physical education.

Those who attended the memorial service for Polly Wardrop’s son Bruce were impressed by the number of friends, neighbors and co-workers who wanted to tell all those assembled how much Bruce had touched their lives by his kindness, helpfulness and generosity.  Bruce died instantly in an accident at his place of employment, Yale Electric, crushed by a fallen forklift.  Our deep sympathy to Polly and to Theresa, Bruce’s wife, and his son and daughter and grandchildren.

We are told that Richard Funk’s grandson read a very fine tribute to his grandfather at Dick’s funeral service at our church Saturday, March 15th.  Dick was instrumental in establishing our church Endowment Fund.  Our sympathy to his family.

There is much admiration for the completed landscaping of the Witness Tree site.  The final most important addition has been the “footprint” of the tree. The project, chaired by Dave Martin for the Donegal Society, was done mainly with memorial donations, major ones receiving plaques now on display in the cabinet of the church narthex.  One plaque memorializes Jane Cameron Slaymaker, John G. Zimmerman, Mina Louisa Coar, and Samuel R. Slaymaker.  The other was given in memory of Margaretta Heisey and J.W. Jap Heisey.  Those who knew Jap and Margie realize how much they would appreciate this memorial of the Witness Tree, which was a symbol of patriotism for more than two centuries.

Other observations include the beautiful Easter window decorations with a white cross and pink and purple flowers done by Kristi Elkner’s Flower Committee……and Tim Elkner serving as a judge in the Lancaster Newspapers Science and Engineering Fair…..and the amazingly lovely voice of Amy Yovanovich who sang a number of solos at the Community Good Friday Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy.  Karen Karnes and Steve Sturgis were participants in the community choir accompanied by organ and instrumental music.

What good things have you witnessed recently?
