Monthly Message From the Study of Donegal Presbyterian Church

Wow…  Here we go!  First let me say how happy I am to be your pastor.  Your affirmation of my call this past Sunday made my heart swell.  I love you all so much, and I know that you love me!  And as much as there is still some work to be done from the initial phase of my call to Donegal, I am so excited to move into this next phase and look toward the future!

However at the present, I cannot look too far into the future.  That is because the immediate future is really busy, and that is a good thing.  We have a FULL February!  So I wanted to take some time to lay out some of the activities going on this month…

  • Scout Sunday on Sunday, February 4th - We will be welcoming our charted Scout Troop (53) and Pack (150).  They will worship with us and participate in different leadership roles during the service.

  • Celebration Sunday on Sunday, February 11th - We have so much to celebrate.  Officially, it is the Sunday where we celebrate the Transfiguration of the Lord, where Christ’s body is transfigured with light.  As we see ourselves as Christ’s body at work in the world, we have much to celebrate.  First, there will be a continental breakfast from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  Come as you please and share in fellowship.  Then worship will begin promptly at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary.  Worship will entail a “working sermon,” where I will begin by lifting up the Transfiguration as a guide to your discernment of what direction we want to look for our missional emphasis.  Also in this service, the Presbytery Leadership will be present to present me with the constitutional questions and officially install me as you pastor.

  • Knights Templar Holy Land Pilgrimage from Monday, February 12th through Thursday, February 22nd - I cannot believe the trip is almost here.  For the better part of two weeks, I will be on an intensive study pilgrimage to Israel.  I am so excited for this once in a lifetime opportunity.  Please pray for my journey, and me.  It should be a trip I will never forget, and I cannot wait to tell you all about it!

  • Ash Wednesday on February 14th - A service, including the imposition of ashes, will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Donald Rising.  It will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

  • Lenten Series on Sunday evenings from February 18th through March 25th - As is tradition, we will hold a potluck dinner in the Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m.  Then at 6:30 p.m., we will host a series of religious clergy to educate us on their specific lines of faith.  Each week we will hear a talk about a different faith or church.  I am so excited for this opportunity, and sorry that I will miss the first one! (I’ll be in Israel.)  We will hear clergy from Islam, the Antiochian Catholic Church, Judaism, the Coptic Orthodox Church, the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Greek Orthodox Church.  Please consider coming to this great opportunity to learn about other faiths and churches, and invite a friend!

This is all quite a bit in of itself, however there are more events going on as well, like Judy Weidman’s Valentines Dinner on February 10th.  Keep your eyes open!  In the meantime, let me say how happy I am to be your pastor here at Donegal.  I cannot wait to see where God will lead us together.  However for the present, let’s enjoy the ride… here we go!

            Your brother in Christ,
