The "Hope House" is a church-owned property that is used for transitional housing for those in need. It's operation is administered by Hope Transitional Housing of Donegal. Our congregation participates in the building's upkeep and offers help whenever possible. The house is typically occupied rent-free for only a couple of months while the residents stabilize their lives.

Our congregation has accepted the challenge of helping with the Homes of Hope (Hope House) mission project.  Our committee greatly appreciates all that you have contributed.  Because this is an ongoing mission, we continually need help.  At the moment, we are in need of mentors for the families that move in.  A mentor is basically a support person helping the family work toward their goals.  You are not alone.  You work with Tabor Services and LOVE, INC.  Together we all help the homeless family work toward their goals of finding a more permanent place to live, learning to budget, finding a job, and listening to their concerns.  It is usually a three-month commitment for each new family.

If you think you would like to be a mentor or possibly part of a mentoring team, please talk with me about it or any other mentors, Suzanne Burger or Melody Nissley.

Hope House Update:

Another family has moved from the Hope House into their own place.  They were able to stay in the Donegal School District, which was a priority to them.  The family worked hard to meet their goals of finding work, saving money, and moving into their own place.  They received much of their furniture from the furniture bank and they were so grateful.  This was another success story from the Hope House.

Thanks to all who helped in any way.  This is a mission that we can be proud of in these hard economic times.

I have had calls about donating furnishings or any household items over the years.  If you have anything to donate, please call Lorraine Lutz at the furniture bank.  Her phone is 653-2478 in the morning and 653-1665 in the afternoon.  She can make arrangements for drop off or pick up whatever you need.  The furniture bank furnishes the houses that our families move into and also keeps replenishing supplies in the transitional houses.

Please keep this mission in your prayers.  There are also many opportunities for volunteers.

If you have any questions, please contact Dawn Bourassa at 717-892-6606.
